ToffeeAM is thrilled to announce our leadership in a pioneering project awarded funding by Innovate UK as part of UKRI’s Prospering from the Energy Revolution program. This initiative aims to accelerate the UK’s transition to a net zero energy system through innovative open software, hardware, and data solutions. Innovative projects will work on new open software, hardware, and data solutions to help accelerate the UK’s transition to a net zero energy system.
Our part of the project focuses on developing an AI-driven open-source framework for the next generation of heat exchangers. This involves working on a curated dataset for modeling turbulence in the design of printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) and cold plate cooling systems, which are crucial for industries tackling electrification and the move towards net zero.
This funding, part of a broader effort to stimulate the UK’s energy revolution, supports projects that develop collaborative open technology resources. These resources are designed to help accelerate net zero projects not just in the UK but globally.
Project Highlights:
- Innovative Approach: ToffeeAM’s project aims to enhance the design and efficiency of heat exchangers using advanced AI and open-source data, contributing to more effective electrification solutions.
- Collaborative Resources: All projects funded under this initiative are geared towards creating open technology solutions that others can use to further their own net-zero efforts. This collaborative approach is vital in sharing knowledge and accelerating progress.
Rob Saunders, Director of the Prospering from the Energy Revolution challenge program, emphasized the importance of this work, stating, “To reach net zero by 2050, we must change the way we use and manage energy. By developing open digital solutions in their fields, these innovative projects hold real promise to help accelerate the energy revolution.”
Additional Funded Projects Include:
- Open Energy Efficiency Savings: Led by Carbon Co-op, adapting an open-source methodology for quantifying avoided energy use.
- State-of-the-Art Solar PV Generation Forecast: By Open Climate Fix, to enhance power generation forecasts for solar systems.
- 5G Open RAN IAB Radio Stack Development: JET Engineering System Solutions is developing solutions to improve communications for offshore wind farms.
- Open Source Plumbing Controller: Led by Thermal Integration, this project aims to enhance HVAC system efficiency and reduce emissions.
- Household and Community Solar Assessment Calculator: The Centre for Sustainable Energy is creating a web application to provide free, independent information on the viability of installing solar panels.
Looking Ahead:
The support from Innovate UK and participation in this program enable ToffeeAM to further our commitment to innovative and sustainable energy solutions. By leading the development of open digital resources, we are not only contributing to the energy transition but also enhancing our ability to support businesses and industries in designing greener, more efficient machines and engines.
